Explore the rewards of working for state government and protecting Washington Citizens and the safety of workers.Serving as a Crane Safety Specialist, you will conduct crane and rigging safety inspections in all industries, ensuring compliance with crane certification and operator qualifications. Youâll be responsible for ensuring the safety of the public at large. Most projects using cranes are in highly populated areas where the public and workers alike, are exposed to extreme hazards.
You will conduct accident investigations; investigate employee complaints and referrals that involve all cranes and rigging activities.Some of what youâll doSchedule, organize, and conduct crane safety inspections, routinely inspecting cranes in areas of uneven ground or at heights exceeding 400 feetDetermine if employers are complying with safety and health standards, general duty clauses and safe employee exposure limits to health haz! ardsExercise compliance authority in issuing citations, includ! ing orders and notices of immediate restraint and defend citation at appeal hearingsGather and analyze evidence relative to employer knowledge, employee exposure, and precise hazard identificationLead or assist other compliance safety officers in complex inspections and investigationsDetermine if accredited crane certifiers are complying with crane certification requirementsOrganize, write and edit comprehensive investigation reports Who should apply Occupational Safety professionals with at least 4 years of experience as a Safety & Health Specialist 2, with a background in construction and maritime industries with regard to crane safety and rigging. ORCertified Crane Operators or Crane Certifiers with 5 years of experience and knowledge of cranes used in the construction and maritime industries.ORCrane Mechanics or Crane Technicians with 5 years of experience working with, and inspecting cranes.NOTE: In order to become a permanent employee, successful candidate must pass t! he Washington State Construction Crane Certifier Examination. What weâre Looking ForAbility to enforce laws, rules and regulations, conduct enforcement inspections, determine and advise employers whether they are in compliance with laws, rules and regulations.Demonstrated skills to conduct accident investigations of fatalities, catastrophes, and serious injuries, make recommendations, and appear and testify at formal and informal hearings as a state's witness.Knowledge to apply the departmentâs interpretation of codes and regulations Proven research and analytical skills, able to use the Internet and other sources to gather information and make constructive recommendation to employers, employees and L&I staff. Strong writers with the ability to draft and edit comprehensive investigative reports for accident investigations, complaints and inspections.
