The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Corrections a! nd Custody Officer 2 at the Wenatchee Field Office. The hours of work are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The Wenatchee WORKCREW program is a DOC restorative justice program that is funded by outside contracts for the purpose of providing general offender labor to the community as restitution for their criminal behavior. While the primary labor purpose is for the cleaning of litter and illegal dumping, these crews also provide general project assistance in areas such as brush cutting, invasive weed removal, Community and Chambers of Commerce needs, and various other general labor tasks on public properties.

Duties:
Be a positive role model for offenders and w! ork to help them become productive members of society from the day they arrive under your supervision. Use psychology and good communication skills to correct and counteract criminal thinking of offenders while maintaining safe confinement environments for offenders to pursue a successful re-entry into communities. The successful candidate will posses creative thinking, self-confidence, strong role-modeling and good conditioning. The Wenatchee Workcrew Correctional Officer is responsible for facilitating the work crew for offenders and, occasionally, non-DOC offenders from Chelan County Superior Courts who perform various Community Restitution projects such as litter pick up, illegal dump removal, grounds maintenance, land restoration, habitat improvement, and encampment removal. This position provides safety and rules orientation to work crew participants and ensure compliance. This position instructs, directs, and oversees movement of work crew participants. This position! maintains daily crew vehicle inventories, and maintains records of work crew participant hours completed, locations worked, safety and injury reports, and violations. This position transports work crew participants to and from work sites. This position coordinates with local law enforcement, contract vendors and other agencies as needed to facilitate work crew activities. This position instructs work crew participants on proper and safe use of all equipment. This position issues and maintains daily responsibility for tools, supplies, and safety equipment as needed. This position maintains ongoing work site safety, the integrity of work crew vehicle and report/document all damage of work crew property. This position is responsible to communicate and coordinate with stakeholders and/or contractors to ensure the scope of work for a specific project is completed as requested.
This position may require assisting field CCOs with field contacts and transports.
C! orrectional Officers must successfully complete Correctional Worker Cor! e (CWC), a six-week academy for all correctional workers employed in DOC prison facilities. We know that managing difficult people takes more than force. It takes observation, knowledge, skills and continual practice. Every DOC employee is provided with initial training designed to help assure safe working conditions.
Qualifications:
One year of experience as a Correctional Officer, which included successful completion of the Correctional Officer training plan; or Graduation from high school and one year of experience as a correctional officer in adult or juvenile corrections where security functions equivalent to a Level 2 Correctional Officer were performed. Possess a valid driver's license. Demonstrated ability to write clearly, factually and concisely. Ability to be coached, to accept supervision and to receive instructions and constructive criticism. Ability to recall detailed instructions and to maintain attention and concentration for extended per! iods of time. Effective oral communication skills in routine and emergent situations. Develop and promote positive and professional interpersonal relationship skills.
