THE HOURLY RATE RANGE FOR THIS POSITION IS: $21.21 - $24.76
.
The primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of painting, including surface preparation, blending and matching paints, and coating of various surfaces requiring fine finishes and decorative effects.
Prepares various surfaces of interior and exterior components of buildings and other structures by mechanically and chemically removing old paint and rust, filling cracks, sanding, and applying fillers and base coats.
Mixes, thins, blends, matches, tints, and tones coating materials.
Adds pigment and/or thinners to gauge the change of! color tone and drying properties.
Mixes stains, epoxies, enamels, varnishes, shellacs, lacquers, plastic paints, bituminous paints, and other surface coating materials.
Applies coating materials using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other means of application. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment.
Uses and maintains tools.
Uses tools such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, graining devices, viscosity testers, thickness gauges, compressors, as well as common hand and power tools to do the work.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.

EXPERIENCE:
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OP! M Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C; (e.g. WG-4100, Painting and P! aperhanging Family, APR, 2013). Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the "Ability to do the work of the Painter without more than normal supervision."
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of accepted surface preparation and coating methods and techniques including special finishing techniques; and paints and thinning additives.
2. Knowledge o! f safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of current Federal, state, local, and Air Force regulations pertaining to hazardous waste management.
4. Skill in reading and applying directions that relate to the mixture, use, and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents, and pre-coating agents; and tinting, toning, matching, and blending coating materials.
5. Skill in determining the methods, techniques, devices, and materials best suited to obtain the surface condition and finish required.
6.
Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.

:
Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
Physical Effort:
The painter prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and in situations where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard-to-reach places! .
The work may be at extreme heights (such as water towers or tall buildings).
This requires the ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, be strapped into swing stages, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Ability to lift, carry, and set up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally, may be required to handle materials and equipment that weigh 40 pounds and over.
Working Conditions:
The work is done inside and outside, with dirt, spray, and fumes usually present.
The painter is sometimes required to prepare, treat, and finish surfaces outside in all types of weather.
Protective equipment and clothing such as safety shoes, safety glasses or sun glasses, gloves, rain gear, hard hats, coveralls, respirators and other protective gear are required, which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts and bruises; may occasio! nally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones.
