The position is in Region 6, located on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, Supervisors Office, located in Wenatchee, Washington. The ecologist will serve as the primary implementer of the landscape analysis that is the cornerstone of the Okanogan-Wenatchee NFâs Restoration Strategy. The applicant will be tasked with analyzing, interpreting, and documenting each landscape analysis. They will also provide support to the district specialists.

This position will be filled as a TERM (temporary) appointment for a period of 1 year but not more than 4 years. Initial duration of appointment will be 13 months. The appointme! nt may be extended for more than 1 year up to the 4 year limit! in 1 year increments without further competition or certification depending on the needs of the agency. An appointment as TERM is temporary and does not confer permanent status as a Federal employee. However, under this appointment, selectee will be eligible for benefits such as retirement, health insurance, and life insurance.

Assist in implementing the ecological programs.
Use of GIS and statistics to perform analysis tasks.
Assists in or personally conducts portions of ecological studies of the vegetation, soil, and environmental characteristics of the Zone or forest ! from which ecological classifications are produced. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
You must possess the requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.
Bachelor's Degree: biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.
In addition to the basic requirements, the following additional education and/or experience are qualifying. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience is def! ined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the p! osition to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level; and/or a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience; One full year of graduate level education (coursework directly related to position being filled); Superior Academic Achievement (click the link to determine if you are eligible: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp );
Specialized Experience is defined as one or more of the following: familiar with a variety of natural resource disciplines including terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, botany, hydrology, and range. Working knowledge with ArcGIS, an NRIS or statistical software packages. Worked on, or assisted in portions of biological reviews and assessments for NEPA documents (EIS, EA). Experience working with maps, and been ! part of crew working in remote environments or been part of a seasonal work force that assisted in conducted data collection in remote environments, performing routine observation, measurement, inventorying, and recording of scientific data used to support ecosystem management.
