Dairy Sales Specialist – Job Description

Dairy Sales Specialist will identify dairy accounts in a given trade area and then lead the initiatives to gain and grow the business those identified operations. Primary targets will be large, progressive, and long-term dairy businesses – 500 cows or larger.

This position is remote (virtual) and offices from home but must be located within the territory covered which is the entire state of Michigan

Role, Responsibilities, and Expectations – Dairy Sales Specialist

  • Focus list of strategic dairy accounts developed with Area Sales Manager (ASM) in assigned geography
  • Control nutrition on herds greater than 500 cows
  • Portfolio of business goal of greater than 8,000 cows
  • Ongoing prospecting of targeted and agreed upon dairies
  • Work closely with Great Lakes Dairy team to achieve growth goals
  • Provide on farm support to dealer sales staff as needed and approved by ASM
  • Provide technical support to Great Lakes Dairy team. Includes but limited to ration formulation, on farm walk through, and meetings with large herd teams
  • Assist in ongoing development/updates to services, products and program to support sales initiatives
  • Work closely with ASM on list of targeted dairies to contact
  • Have detailed business plan/goals for target strategic dairy accounts
  • Develop IDP/skill enhancement with ASM
  • Attend key industry events relevant to large, progressive dairy operations
  • Develop and enhance relationship with fellow dairy team members to grow business
  • Develop new tools and programs as needed to meet demands of strategic dairy prospect accounts and customers
  • Participate in assigned team functions/peer group

Required Experience-Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Dairy Science or other related agriculture fields
  • Preferred candidates will have a minimum of 3 years of experience with an animal science/nutrition emphasis, and a proven track record of growing and maintaining a customer base. Candidate should have a good understanding of animal husbandry, current management practices, and nutritional guidelines.
  • Successful candidate should be competent to have basic command of animal nutrition and management recommendations in the market.
  • There is a requirement of excellent verbal and written communication skills, focus, along with strong organization and time management skills.
  • Success in this position requires cold calling, high internal drive, a natural ability for relationship building, public speaking aptitude, and leadership in a team environ

This is a sales role that is compensated with a target mix of base salary plus commission. Typical base salary range is $73,000 - $110,000 DOE. Commission is driven by individual performance.
