Process Improvement Manager

This role supports our Oriented Strand Board (OSB) business to safely improve reliability, profitability, and competitive results. The Process Improvement Manager will report! to the OSB Manufacturing Manager. Location is based in Federal Way and will require up to 50% travel to US and Canadian mill locations and sales regions.
Key Functions:
Operating improvement
Work with manufacturing teams to improve efficiency and effectiveness of our manufacturing operations and business processes. Document understanding of equipment capability and key levers for reducing variability and improving throughput.
Partner with manufacturing teams to develop and implement effective Key Process Indicators (KPIs) for all major process areas. Ensure KPIs are integrated into daily operations and performance management processes.
Develop a framework for ensuring Safe Operating Procedures and Reliable methods are up to date, sufficiently detailed, securely stored, and integrated into training and on-boarding programs.
Coach the process of developing and deploying effective standard work practices across the site,! and rapidly share and re-apply proven methods from other loca! tions as appropriate.
Use an analytical and data-driven approach to drive recommendations for resource allocation and intervention.
Continuous Improvement
Partner with manufacturing team to identify continuous improvement opportunities within and between mills.
Develop a culture in OSB business that will accelerate ongoing continuous improvement efforts, with emphasis on manufacturing but may include sales and support functions.
Identify and utilize internal benchmarking where appropriate to identify opportunities and improve results.
Lead or coach focused improvement activities and teams to understand and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and other results like quality, safety, delivery, and cost.
Act as a resource for root cause analysis and provide coaching to resolve production related issues. Work and coach on improving machine performance and work flow. Study process flowcharts and recommend mo! difications in work flow.
Lead and coach individuals and teams on application of modern methods to solve problems using methods such as Why-Why, 6 Sigma, and other root cause analysis methods.
Facilitate or coordinate workshops and training events to teach the concepts of Value Add vs. Non-Value Add and coach the OSB associates to see and eliminate waste.
Have mastery of some of the continuous improvement tools which are based on the teachings of LEAN, TPM, 6 Sigma, TQM, and High Performance Work Systems.
Work with the site managers and site leadership teams to make the plants capable to measure, visualize, analyze, improve, and report the KPIs.
Project Management
In addition to the above duties, it is expected that the successful candidate will include leading and/or contributing to special projects or assignments important to the successful execution of the OSB business plan.

Qualifications
Requirements:
Demonstrated strong safety leadership.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in mill manufacturing environment or project management.
Proven track record of leading through influence, building effective partnerships and collaboration wit! h diverse teams to drive business results.
Demonstrated success developing & implementing sustainable business processes that produce results.
Highly motivated and performance driven.
Strong verbal & written communication skills with ability to concisely communicate key messages to decision makers and develop trust with a wide cross section of associates.
Strong facilitation and persuasion skills to work with all levels of business.
Innovative with strong desire for continuous learning of new technologies.
Strong interpersonal skills and change management skills to lead, influence, and motivate.
Bachelors Degree in technical, engineering or business related discipline or equivalent skills and experiences.
Able and willing to travel up to 50% to US and Canadian sites.
Knowledge and experience with at least one of the following modern continuous improvement methods (LEAN, TPM, 6 Sigma, TQM).
