Overview:
Position Summary:
A Postdoctoral position is available in the Shi Lab at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles of the University of Southern California. The Shi lab conducts basic and translational research of pulmonary biology and diseases, including lung development and congenital pulmonary airway malformation, lung mesenchymal pathobiology associated with pulmonary fibrosis and vascular diseases, pathogenic mechanisms underlying genetic mutations and the subsequent pulmonary lesions seen in Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome and lymphangioleiomyomatosis, and the impacts of tobacco product inhalation on lung development and diseases using multi-disciplinary in vitro and in vivo approaches. Specifically, the lab will investigate several topics that are funded by NIH and California Tobacco Related Disease Research Program: 1) how deletion of Flcn gene in lung mesenchyme results in cystic lesions as seen in Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome; 2) how Tsc2 deletion and the altered mTOR signaling induce proliferative nodules and cystic destruction seen in lymangioleiomyomatosis; 3) the molecular mechanisms by which BMP signaling regulates airway development and its relationship to congenital airway malformation; 4) whether and how inhalation of tobacco products affects lung mesenchymal stem cell growth or lung fibrosis progression. The postdoc training will help developing the academic knowledge and research fundamentals, teaching and administrative experience necessary to be an exemplary researcher. The postdoc will perform laboratory work and conduct research activities independently or in collaboration with internal and external investigators, publish and present research results in scientific journals and meetings, participate in seminars, meetings, trainings and other educational sessions.

The minimal two-year position is open immediately until filled. Salary will be commensurate with experience based on the NIH pay lines and employee benefits. Please contact Kathryn Aguilar, kaguilar@chla.usc.edu if you are interested in this position.
