Seattle-based EarthCorps trains emerging environmental leaders from across the United States and around the world and engages more than 14,000 volunteers each year to restore natural areas around the Puget Sound region. Since 1993, EarthCorps has trained 1,000 young adults from more than 80 countries through our flagship conservation corps. As part of EarthCorps' intensive hands-on curriculum, participants learn restoration techniques, try out project design and management, develop leadership and team-building skills, and manage thousands volunteers through community-based environmental restoration initiatives. Each year EarthCorps graduates 50 young people capable of leading their communities in environmental service. As an organization, EarthCorps demonstrates a strategic approach to its work and growth. The organization is in the process of setting a new strategic plan for 2013 - 2018 and will continue to build new vigor and strength both internally and externally. In 2009 and 2011 EarthCorps successfully merged with 2 key partner nonprofits, Seattle Urban Nature and Friends of the Hylebos.

Position Overview:
EarthCorps is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Director of Development to oversee and manage a maturing development program. This position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for directing all activities related to attracting and securing the organization's contributed income. The projected growth of EarthCorps' fundraising program over the next 3 years correlates directly to the organization's current commitment and investment to build its major individual gifts program. In 2012, approximately 40% of the $2.5 million operational budget will come from contributed income. Contributed income will become a larger portion of the operating income in the years to come.

Responsibilities:Leadership, Management, and Planning (15%):
Serves as a member of EarthCorps staff Management Team which includes participation in strategic organizational planning Attends and reports at board meetings, as required Participates on the board nominating committee Serves as lead staff liaison to board committees related to donor engagement and fundraising Manages a development staff team consisting of a Development & Communications Coordinator and a part-time Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations. Collaborates with marketing and finance staff to ensure program alignment Serves as an external staff ambassador on behalf of the organization Establishes and maintains key stakeholder relationships proactively

Fund Development Program (80%):
Writes and implements a measurable annual development operating plan to enhance and sustain EarthCorps' programs and infrastructure Evaluates progress toward goals, prepares periodic reports for the board and recommends changes or additions to the plans, as needed Designs and implements fundraising strategies based on best practices to attract a broad base of support through annual giving opportunities including: direct mail, online gifts, major and special gifts, special events, sponsorships, planned gifts, memorial gifts and in-kind gifts o Major Gifts (50%): Responsible for implementing and managing all activities related to attracting and securing major individual gifts on behalf of the organization o Events (15%): Oversees event planning and management and takes responsibility for providing input on the strategic elements and program objectives of each event o Foundation and Corporate Grants (5%): Oversees grants and sponsorship program which includes proposal writing and stewarding relationships with government, foundation and corporate funders and prospects. o Individual Giving (5%): Overseas individual giving and donor appeals with support from Development and Communications Coordinator. o Communications (5%): Coordinates communications and marketing materials with Strategic Initiatives Director who manages communications/marketing with Development and Communications Coordinator. Oversees the ongoing integrity of the donor database (SalesForce) Oversees a compelling donor engagement, recognition and stewardship program Provides leadership, training and support to staff and volunteers engaged with fundraising activities Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and experience in a related field Strong interest in community service, environment and youth development 4 to 6 years of increasing experience in broad based fund development, with a strong background in securing major gifts Knowledge of Seattle's philanthropic community Demonstrated success in working with nonprofits boards and developing relationships with donors Ability to efficiently organize, prioritize work and meet deadlines Demonstrated leadership in a team setting working with staff, volunteers, and others to accomplish fundraising objectives Demonstrated management skills including staff supervision and development Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain self-motivation and persist in the face of obstacles Ability to travel regionally including car and ferry trips Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills Proficient in Microsoft Office programs Highly motivated, organized, creative self-directed and flexible Positive attitude and sense of humor Position Open until filled.
