WORK SCHEDULE: This position is overtime eligible, with a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.

Job Duties:
1. Develop and implement a program of inspection and testing of mechanical and civil construction work for assigned contracts. Construction work could occur on any portion of the Wastewater Treatment Division infrastructure including t! reatment plants, pump stations, and conveyance system.
2. Assist in the review of contractor submittals for mechanical and civil construction work for conformance with contract specifications and drawings.

3. Prepare inspection and testing reports, field notes, and other required reports; support change order preparations, contract dispute resolution and closeouts as required.

4. Support the administration of small mechanical and civil specialty wastewater treatment construction contracts or the mechanical or civil engineering elements of larger contracts.

5. Coordinate the work of other mechanical and/or civil inspection staff. Provide lead direction to lower-level staff.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:

  • Two years of technical school training in mechanical and civil engineering or a related technical field and four (4) years of progressively responsible construction inspection or sub-professional engineering experience is required (additional academic or v! ocational courses in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering: electrical, mechanical and construction code requirements, or building construction is desired); OR six years of progressively responsible mechanical and civil construction inspection or responsible construction engineering experience is required in the fields of wastewater conveyance and treatment, or other heavy industrial mechanical facilities: OR three years of experience as a journeyman level trades person working in wastewater construction or other closely related heavy industrial environment.
  • A valid Washington State Driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow technical specifications and procedures.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Knowledge of mechanical and civil engineering construction systems, especially as applied to wastewater treatment or heavy industrial facilities.

2. Experience with managing construction activities in! operational environments and knowledge of hazards and safety procedure! s involved.

3. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications as applied to wastewater treatment facility and large conveyance systems.

4. Thorough knowledge of construction methods, with emphasis on mechanical and conveyance system installations.

5. Ability to inspect materials and workmanship and recognize deficiencies and omissions requiring correction.

6. Thorough knowledge of relevant construction laws, ordinances, codes, regulations, specifications and standards.

7. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, including ability to use a computer for word-processing and data analysis.

8. Prior to a final offer of employment, the successful candidate will provide a 5-year complete driving abstract.

HIGHLY DESIRABLES:
Experience in both mechanical and civil inspection

Experience with structural (concrete, re-steel) inspection

PHYSICAL REQUIR! EMENTS:
Some physical skill and effort is required to perform construction inspections.
