Alternative Resource Clerk

Education :
High School Diploma or GED equivalent ( Proof required prior to interview )

Skills:
Must be able to type 35 WPM accurately ( Test required )
Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Ability to understand or knowledge of CHS guidelines.
Knowledge of DSHS application process.
Ability to work as a team member.
Must have a pleasant and friendly attitude.
Familiarity with modern office machines.
Must have experience with and knowledge of HIPPA regulations.

Experience:
Minimum of six (6) months experience in a Health Clinic.
Minimum of six (6) months experience working in an office environment performing clerical duties.
Minimum of six (6) months experience working with the public utilizing customer relation skills.
Minimum of one (1) year computer experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel programs.

Other require! ments:
Must have a valid State Driver’s License and ! valid auto insurance ( Provide proof prior to interview )
Must adhere to strict confidentiality of all departmental information seen and heard at all times.
Must have the tolerance and patience to deal with upset, angry and/or frustrated patients and/or vendors.
Must have a basic understanding of Native American Community.
Must have no misuse or abuse of alcohol or other mind altering chemicals for a period of two (2) years prior to employment and while employed.
Must be able to successfully pass an initial and periodic background and criminal check, character investigation as a condition of/and continued employment. No felonious offenses or any or two or more misdemeanor offense.
Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays as needed or requested.
Must have a successful current or past employment history with the Tulalip Tribes and/or other employers.

Physical Characteristics and/or Prerequisites:
Manual and fin! ger dexterity for the operation of a personal computer, office machines and routine paperwork.
Stamina to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.
Tolerance to be exposed to a computer screen for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs.
Mobility to bend and stoop.

Employee Classification : Non-Exempt

Job Summary: Responsible for filling out Alternative Resource applications for CHS eligible patients, and following up on denials issued. Gathers information from patients needed for application, as well as working as liaison between outside vendors and patients to ensure applications are followed up on. Maintains and organized filing system of DSHS applications and information.

Employee Reports to: Alternate Resource Advocate Supervisor

Employee Supervises: None

Specific Job Performed:
Follows! up on all denials issued for Alternative Resources.
Assists eligib! le patients with filling out applications for Alternative Resources, as well as following up on the applications.
Gathers information such as identification, driver’s license, address verification, household bills, hospital/doctors’ bills, and/or letters from physicians for application process.
Contact patients regarding review of application for continuing with Alternative Resources.
Keep appointment book of patients that need assistance with filling out application and gathering information.
Acts as a liaison between outside vendors and patients.
Composes letters to patients in regards to insurance coverage and changes.
Maintains an organized filing system for all information gathered and copy of applications sent to outside vendor offices.
Establish and maintain working relationships with outside vendors, clinics and Department of Social and Health Services for patient advocacy.
Obtain Tribal Verification and Income.
Verify all oth! er insurance and obtain verification.
Must be able to transport patient in the absence of advocate or specialist.
Open, date stamp, log and disperse mail.
Assist with keeping policies and procedures updated.
Performs other duties as deemed necessary or requested.
