The Baliga and Price labs of the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, WA are seeking a qualified Postdoctoral Fellow! or Research Scientist for a joint interdisciplinary research position for integrated metabolic and gene regulatory network modeling. This joint position will work across two across two research groups that use a systems approach to characterize biological complexity. This position will work on a research project directed by Dr. Nitin Baliga and Dr. Nathan Price to develop new model types that build upon leading efforts in gene regulatory (Baliga) and integrated metabolic (Price) modeling. The system to be studied is Algae, with special focus on using a model-driven approach to guide cellular engineering towards enhanced fuel production. Importantly, this position will also involve collaboration with Sapphire Energy, meaning that the science developed here can be leveraged to affect real-world problems in a relatively short time frame. A key aspect of the project will include combining information from multiple levels such as genes, proteins, whole cells, and natural forces! to gain a clear understanding of the specific inputs and proc! esses that lead to specific system behaviors.
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with significant experience in computational analysis, network modeling, and biology. Experience with algae species is a plus. Candidates must have a completed PhD degree at the time of hiring. Candidates must also have excellent interpersonal skills conducive to team work and group research efforts.
