- Perform quantity takeoff estimates for process, utility, HVAC and plumbing systems from drawings, sketches, conversations, and/or field walks
- Apply labor unit extensions
- Finalize budget and ! bid proposals
- Lead and coordinate the estimating proposal from scope identification to final costing and submittal of proposal
- Read and interpret specifications
- Capturing subcontractor and material price quotes
- Complete the bid breakdown forms and submittals that are required to complete the estimate
- Draft proposal cover letter and qualifications and clarifications that pertain to the estimate clearly and accurately
- Summarize all piping materials and labor required to perform the work in an orderly organized way.
- Electronically organize proposal data
- Review estimates that are submitted
- Perform periodic review of actual performance results against established estimating units, and adjust base units to allow for trends in performance
- Ensure that all estimates, takeoff, etc. are in conformance with established estimating standards and processes
Required Experience:
Extensive knowledge of multiple trade construction mat! erials, methods, estimating practices and costs- required Able to extract from preliminary drawings, sketches, conversations and actual reviews in the field information all material and labor required to estimate as well as execute the project Able to visualize what is not apparent and price accordingly Able to assess project risk and find ways to mitigate those risks Ability to document all estimating data so that it can be recalled later. This includes completing and providing of detailed work breakdowns of cost and labor, providing sketches and other information pertaining to the estimate to substantiate the pricing in the estimate. Requires good communication skills both written and verbal Must understand construction schedule logic Must demonstrate the ability to take the lead in developing the proposal in a timely and successful manner. Ability to learn software based takeoff systems Exte! nsive knowledge of construction materials, methods, practices and costs Computer literate (able to use Excel, Word, Outlook, QuickPen preferred) Understand terminology pertaining to the piping craft Highly skilled in takeoff techniques and mathematics CADD experience a plus Able to communicate graphically and verbally Good imagination Able to think in abstract terms Able to make decisions based on limited information available High attention to detail and accuracy. Required Education:
College degree or equivalent experience (Minimum 5 years) working in the piping area of construction (high tech experience preferable)
