Scientist I/II - MAT - NeuroImage Analysis and Data Mining:
We are seeking an experienced Scientist to be an essential part of the team responsible for our new neuroscience initiative. This bioinformatics project has a strong component of bioimage informatics and computational neuroanatomy. It is a large scale effort combining multiple data types! from light-microscopy and electron microscopy through gene ex! pression data. The successful candidate will act as an analyst and scientist in developing state-of-the-art algorithms and systems for modeling and reconstruction of neural cells and processes, cell counting and the determination of statistical properties of these entities, and joint analysis of multiple data sets. Strong analytic and programming skills are desirable in the development of visualization and analysis tools as well. This data will be connected the dynamics of very large number of identifiable neurons, interconnected in very specific ways, and to compare these models against electrophysiological recordings, calcium imaging and behavior provided by high-throughput, in-house observatories.
Responsibilities:
Develop high quality image segmentation and visualization algorithms for large scale 3D microscopic images.
Develop enabling image analysis techniques for characterizing the projection and distribution of neuronal patterns in the 3! D images.
Develop algorithms for precise gene expression characterization.
Work with experimentalists to understand their data and to suggest new experiments
Work efficiently in a collaborative team environment
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering or related field.
Expert in one of more programming languages such as: C / C++
Significant experience in the design and implementation of image processing algorithms and techniques
Working experience in computational neuroscience
Ability to meet challenging timelines and deliverables
Strong written and verbal communication skills and a strong publication record
