The Substation Engineer will ! perform professional electrical engineering work in the analys! is, design, application, and equipment selection for electric utility infrastructure primarily focused on medium and high voltage substations and transmission lines. The position requires close cooperation with other members of design teams providing cross-discipline support in civil and structural engineering.
The qualified individual will require a combination of strong engineering and interpersonal skills. A high attention to detail and focus on quality is a must. The position will include reporting to project managers and project engineers and cooperating with and assisted by CAD and designers. . Additionally the candidate can to work jointly withLeidos staff in other locations. Assignments cover the preparation of design and supporting calculations, review and understanding of equipment and application, preparation of the specifications, application of industry accepted practices, gathering and analyzing data, and the preparation of drawings illustrating funct! ional areas of design. The projects may cover electric utility planning, operations, distribution plane, substations, and transmission lines.
Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 2+ years relevant experience in medium and high voltage electrical utility substation physical, or Protection and Controls engineering
- Arrangement and layout
- Equipment selection and specification
- Substation grounding analysis and design
- Cabling and wiring and associated conduit systems
- Application of protective devices including gateway and substation management systems and protective device settings
- Computer software used for the planning, analysis, and design of electric utility projects
- EIT is desirable
- B.S. degree in electrical engineering
- Familiarity with preparation of design drawings and specifications
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure A self-directed indi! vidual who can also work effectively in teams
- Strong written a! nd verbal communication skills required
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or Microstation is a plus
- Periodic travel may be required
