Why does the job exist?

The position is to perform a technical and regulatory review of the most complex air quality construction and operating permit applications including Prevention of Significant Deterioration major sources. This review includes verifying emissions calculations, determining applicable state and federal regulations, and drafting legally enforceable air permits and technical support documents using standardized templates and protocols to compile a quality administrative record. This position supports the Permit Programs Section of the Air Quality Bureau through a variety of special projects
that enhance the efficiency of the Section. These include research into regulations, develop of protocols for determining applicable regulations, and other special projects as needed.

  • New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment.
  • Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies to include contractors, and environmental not for profit organizations.

Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
  • Proficient in science, mathematics, and chemistry to verify complex calculations on pollutants.
  • Federal and New Mexico air quality regulations, including Clean Air Act experience.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and five (5) years of experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources. Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. In-state and out of state travel may be required.
