Role Overview
This position is for a Mechanical/Nuclear design engineering supervisor associated with a commercial nuclear power plant with the work assignment located in Richland, Washington.
The Engineering Group Supervisor must have demonstrated experience in managing a group of mechanical and nuclear engineers. In addition, the individual needs to ! have a working knowledge of the regulations and procedures ass! ociated with commercial nuclear power stations. The tasks to manage include generation of design change packages, analyzing existing systems and components for the impact of proposed changes, generating baseline calculations, producing new design documents and changes to existing design documents, preparing construction packages and coordination of Problem Investigation Reports.
Work is for modification of an existing plant. Leadership experience in nuclear operating plant services engineering support and home office engineering is a plus. Routine travel to home office facilities to support project goals should be expected.
The successful applicant should have a thorough knowledge of engineering techniques, design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations including:
- A broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability and maintainability
- Up-to-date knowledge of computer applications t! o engineering and design
- Working knowledge of engineering planning and control methods
- A broad knowledge of precedents in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering and a good knowledge of principles and practices of related technical areas
- A broad knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved
- A good knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to the Mechanical, Nuclear, and Plant Design disciplines
- A good knowledge of Bechtel’s administrative and supervisory practices
- Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication
- Ability to make decisions independently concerning problems within the discipline on the project
- Ability to represent the discipline on the project and with the client and regulators to resolve technical questions and as required to coordinate work
- Abil! ity to supervise and provide technical direction to subordinate enginee! ring leads, engineers, specialists, scientists, designers and drafters
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to upper management
- Ability to review and approve engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries
- A BS degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering from accredited college or University.
- Candidate must currently possess the eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- 10 years of Mechanical/Nuclear experience, of which at least 3 years in leadership role.
- 15 years of Mechanical/Nuclear/Plant Design experience, of which at least 5 years in leadership role.
- Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication in English.
- Experience with boiling water reactor (BWR) commercial nuclear power plants
- Six Sigma Yellow or Black Belt
- A US Professional Eng! ineering (PE) license in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
